Ladies & gents, it’s that time of year again! Met Gala time is so exciting. It’s like more exciting than a new grumpy cat meme…. ok maybe not THAT exciting.

Prada Baroque

prada

1 week ago I received the most exciting twitter message ever, I had won the Fashion Hayley/Vision Direct competition!

This fabulous prize included a voucher of $250 to spend on the Vision Direct website.. If you’ve been on this website (which I’m sure everyone has!) you’ll know that they have a MASSIVE range of designer reading and sunglasses so it was soooooooo hard choosing my prize.

In saying that, I have been eyeing off the Prada Baroque‘s since their release in 2011 and was pretty excited to find they were within my voucher budget.

It took less than a week to receive my gorgeous sunglasses and dealing with VD was an absolute pleasure! And considering it is my birthday this week,  they could not come at a more perfect time. A huge thank you to the ever inspiring Fashion Hayley and the fantastic Vision Direct!

Trend alert for 2013… Hologram!

The 90’s are back baby, and along with the Buffy re-runs and re-released Furby’s comes the fashion trend of HOLOGRAM!

No, we aren’t talking about dead rappers making festival appearances. We are talking about metallic, cool, high-tech holographic items as far as the eye can see.

All the designers have jumped on board, from Stella McCartney to Proenza Schouler and everyone in between. Oh and don’t think buying a pair of $965 Hussein Chalayan Holographic Leggings on Net-A-Porter is going to happen.. they’ve sold out! Holy-graphic.

So the moral of this story is… buy up whatever holo you can find cos this shiz is going to be huge.

Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2013: Sea, Sun and Love

You probably know by now that the Garcon girls are born and bred Italians, Sicilians in fact.

So you can imagine our excitement upon learning that this seasons D&G collection for Milano fashion week was inspired by the dearly missed home town of ours, Sicilia!

Walking down the runway in front of several giant prickly pear trees (which are in abundance in Sicily) the models displayed a delicious range of hessian dresses, stripes and colourful headscarves. It was a collection inspired by Italian summer holidays and the Sicilian lifestyle of sea, sun and love!

One of our favourite details was the use of Sicilian-folk art references on dresses and accessories. One would normally see these prints on tablecloths, and the chandelier earrings would be more familiar as marionettes hanging from the side of a souvenir cart manned by Giuseppe, my cousins best friends bother-in-law. So it’s totally refreshing and inspiring to see them on a runway looking Sicilian-chic.

For the last dress, D&G brought out a ridonk (yep. we just used ridonk) wicker-basket-constructed dress with black lace overlay. This look was absolutely stunning and followed a sophisticated set of sheer black pieces that were reminiscent of Sicilian seductress Malena.

So without visiting our beloved southern island (uh, not Tassie) we’ll settle for enjoying these beautiful D&G creations while eating almond biscotti and lemon granita.

Ciao

Marc Jacobs S/S 2013

Earlier this week at NY fashion week Marc Jacob’s showed his Spring/Summer collection for 2013.

Whoa Marc, whoa.

To sum it up, the collection is black/white/stripes and geometric patterns. Marc has gone all Bridget Riley on our asses and come up with a beautiful collection that’s a little 60’s, a little Tim Burton and a whole lot of awesome!

Oh and an honourable mention must go out to the Mickey Mouse jumper that made an appearance on the runway. Props Marc.

Bat-fash!

Have you seen The Dark Knight Rises yet? If not, Why? Go watch it now, sheesh! And for those of you who have, how freaking great is it? Yep. Pretty great.

Chris Nolan had some huge bat boots to fill after the genius Tim Burton films, but man oh man has he done well. So well in fact, one could even say better than the Burton films…. Ok no, one could not say that, let’s not go crazy here.

But anyway this recent Bat-mania has inspired us to share with you some of our favourite bat-like fashions. And let us make this clear, we have always been obsessed with the Batman franchise and all its associated characters (in particular Catwoman) but we now we feel we can wear this shit and not look like freaks… right? Right!

So uh buy a cat mask, paint yo nails yellow and black and meowwwww!

Lucite excite

I bet when you hear the word lucite you think of those Pam Anderson-stripper-type heels right? Well, we are talking about something completely different and want to change that perception because lucite can be hot and very non-stripper.

We first fell in love with lucite after finding an image of a Prada shoe from their Spring 2010 collection. It’s refined, sophisticated with just the right amount of edge.

Lucite is constantly being re-worked and interpreted by fashion houses, so here are some of our favourites from over the years and a couple of helpful hints for wearing lucite.

Lucite tip 1: If wearing transparent shoes, please do everyone a favour by having well-pedicured feet (just like Leandra here).

Lucite tip 2:  Rocking a lucite bag can be tricky, either have an internal pouch containing your things, or keep the tampons in your pocket girl!

Crystal math

fashion + crystal = awesome.

Yes that’s right, the math is there to prove it… crystal is hot. Just ask Karl Lagerfeld who recently showed a crystal clad collection for Chanel AW 2012/2013.

But hey, if you don’t have gigantic crystals lying around don’t fret! You can also achieve this look with accessories such as shoes, jewellery and for the brave, crystalized eyebrows!

Can’t find any of these in stores? Visit your nearest Spotlight/Lindcraft-type store and buy some fricken crystal/beads and sew this shiz on everythiiiiing. Ok? Good.

P.S. Please don’t use craft glue on eyebrows. It doesn’t work. We know this.
